Worthing is a town on the rise—rich in creativity, innovation, and a deep sense of community. Nestled between the sea and the South Downs, it’s a place where tradition meets transformation, where big ideas emerge from unexpected places, and where voices deserve to be heard on a global stage.
Now is the perfect time to bring TEDx to Worthing. Our town is evolving, embracing new industries, fresh talent, and bold perspectives. As we grow, so do the conversations shaping our future. TEDxWorthing is here to spark those conversations—to challenge, inspire, and celebrate the ideas that define who we are and where we’re headed.
About TEDx, x = independently organised event. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organised events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organised events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organised TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organised.
For our first-ever TEDxWorthing, we are searching for bold, thought-provoking ideas that could shape the future of our town, give voice and agency to its people, and put Worthing on the map—not just locally, but globally.
TEDx is about ideas changing everything—and while our talks will be rooted in Worthing, their impact could go much further. Whether it’s a local initiative with universal lessons, a community-driven innovation that could work anywhere, or a story from Worthing that resonates with audiences across the world, we want ideas that speak to our town but connect with a wider conversation.
Worthing is full of hidden gems—stories, ideas, and innovations waiting to be uncovered. We want to hear from anyone with an idea that could come to life in Worthing, whether it’s about community, culture, sustainability, technology, or something completely unexpected.
The talks we share on our stage will be rooted in Worthing but built for the world. Whether it’s an idea that could transform our town or a perspective that others can learn from, these talks should resonate far beyond our local community.
Originally known as The Denton Lounge, the Pavilion Atrium has long been a part of Worthing’s cultural and social scene. The space was originally established in 1959, funded by a bequest from Alderman James Gurney Denton, a four-time mayor of Worthing who played a key role in shaping the town’s landmarks. His contributions also included the nearby Denton Gardens and the Assembly Hall, both gifted to Worthing’s residents.
Designed as a welcoming and versatile venue attached to the Pavilion Theatre, the Denton Lounge became a popular destination for dining, gatherings, and community events. It underwent a refurbishment in 2015, briefly renamed to The Denton, changing again into what is now the Pavilion Atrium.
While TEDxWorthing is launching as a brand-new event, Worthing has a history of hosting thought-provoking TEDx experiences.
In 2014, TEDxWorthingED took place under the theme "REACH", focusing on education, growth, and opportunity. The event gathered educators, local leaders, and visionaries to explore how Worthing’s evolving educational landscape could help students, teachers, and the wider community reach their full potential.
Talks from the event covered personal development, learning methodologies, and the future of education—many of which remain relevant today.
TEDxWorthing builds on this legacy, expanding beyond education to showcase ideas that shape Worthing’s identity, inspire change, and connect with a global audience. As we embark on this new journey, we invite you to explore past TEDx talks and see how Worthing has already contributed to the TEDx movement.
